Books, Buddha and the Eat Street

Three months after my first post, I feel as if I should have made at least an attempt to post some more thoughts and photos on Hyderabad. Three months later, I have not ventured too much into the remote corners of this city.

Once in a month I go to British Council Library at Khairatabad with a friend of mine called Rajesh. He is always willing to accompany me to the library. Otherwise, it would've been boring to travel all alone to Khairatabad every month. It is quite far away from where we live, must be around ten to twelve kilometers from my room.

British Council is near Lumbini park, and opposite to secretariat. A month ago, during the India-New Zealand one day series, the members of the library were invited to  watch cricket matches on a big screen.I reckon they wanted to entice cricket buffs to their library. I wanted to go there, but a foolish schedule spoiled all my chances. How can they expect me to come there on a weekday?

I should  get a photo of Lumbini park when I go there next time around. For this time I'm posting a photo of Hussain Sagar Lake from the necklace road, just beside the Lumbini park. The place is one of the most visited place in the city. There is a well laid pathway along the lake, like a necklace, dotted with variety of flowers and shrubs of all sizes and colors. They call it Necklace road, and aptly so.

Can you see a pillar in the middle of the lake ? For the uninformed, it is the Buddha statue at the center of the lake. The Buddha statue is the world's largest single-stone statue of Buddha and it is made of white granite rock.So they told me, I haven't checked for the accuracy of the information.Either way,the place is worth a visit if you happen to come to Hyderabad.

As you walk along the Necklace road on a Sunday evening, you can enjoy both the splendour of green grass and the majesty of a blue sky. The trees are just dense enough to allow a gentle breeze to fondle your skin as you walk through the path way.

If you are hungry , you can have a bite at Eat Street, just in front of the Necklace road railway station. It is the place where you can spend money just like the water in the lake in front of the chain of restaurants. More than the food, one can relish the feeling of eating under the sky with a view into the lake as if you were dining on a ship.

Last time I went there, I had to content myself with a French fry due to a lack of time. We didn't want to miss our train , which we eventually did and had to wait for another half  hour before the next train reached Necklace road railway station. On the last two occasions when we went to BCL we walked all along from Lumbini Park to the station in thirty to forty minutes. I'd say it has been a pleasant experience all along.
